In the history of the Indian Syrian Church 18th and 19th centuries are considered as the most complex and problematic age. It marked the tedious efforts of a group of people who earnestly desired to protect their own tradition. Mar Abraham Paulos Pandari is one of the leading personalities who anchored these efforts. But Rome did not officially recognize these efforts as he himself taken away the leadership of the church without the permission from Rome. The three months aged Pandari Schism and the subsequent Rocos, Melus schisms are part of history which led the agitations for the independence of the Syrian Church in India.
