In this book, one can find the Christian doctrine of divinization in its least Hellenized form, closer to the origin of Christianity, Ephrem, the prime representative of the Syriac tradition, is a person of great importance and attraction in the contemporary theological world which shows a renewed interest in re-discovering the richness of the Syriac tradition with its Semitic character in which Christianity was born. The Semitic background of Ephrem’s doctrine of divinization, especially the Jewish influence in his description of paradise, brings it closer to the origin of Christianity. Therefore, this study can be viewed as a contribution to those who search for the roots of the Christian doctrine of divinization in its original expression, least influenced by Greek philosophy. Moreover, the development of the sacramental dimension of the theme will add to a better understanding of the mysteries of Christian initiation.
