India has a glorious past before Christ. Her greatness is first accounted by the western writers. For them India was ‘a land of wealth, wisdom and religions. The patristic writers of the early Christian era were referring to India connecting with St. Thomas’ Indian mission basing on these earlier western historians. The interest shown by the later European writers in the study of classic India gave birth to a new branch of study of the history, culture and philosophies of India called Indology.
